Bardstown City Schools Expands Family Resource Center to Better Serve Students and Families

Bardstown City Schools (BCS) is excited to announce the expansion of the Bardstown City Schools Family Resource and Youth Service Centers (FRYSCs). The expansion is made possible by a funding increase through the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services. This significant enhancement will allow BCS to add two new coordinators, ensuring comprehensive support for all BCS families.

Family Resource and Youth Service Centers, established in 1990 by the Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA), aim to break down barriers to learning by leveraging community resources. The ultimate goal is to enhance student’s ability to succeed in school. Schools qualify for these centers based on the number of students receiving free and reduced school meals.

Previously, BCS had two coordinators serving six schools. With the additional funding, BCS is pleased to welcome Sheila Calbert and Katrina Haydon to the FRYSC team.

Meet Our New Coordinators:

  • Sheila Calbert: A familiar face to BCS families, Sheila has been the FYRSC Assistant since 2021. Previously, Calbert served as the Parent-Teacher Coordinator for 17 years, acting as a liaison for preschool families at the Bardstown Early Childhood Education Center. Her extensive experience includes collaborating with community partners, coordinating ARC meetings, and conducting home visits.
  • Katrina Haydon: Katrina brings over six years of experience as a FRYSC coordinator, along with experience as a Family Advocate and an English Second Language Tutor. Most recently, she served as a FYRSC Coordinator at Bullitt County Schools.

Coordinator Assignments:

  • Katrina Haydon will be stationed at Bardstown Primary but will serve students in preschool through first grade.
  • Catherine Jean-Baptiste will remain at Bardstown Elementary School, continuing to support students in grades 2-5.
  • Sheila Calbert will be located at Bardstown Middle School, serving students in grades 6-8.
  • Josh Payne will continue at Bardstown High School, serving students in grades 9-12.

Expanding the FRYSC team will significantly increase services for families, students, and staff, facilitating stronger connections within the community. The additional coordinators will enhance the volume and quality of support, ensuring that every BCS family receives the assistance they need.
